Members and attenders of the Friends Meeting of Austin condemn the recent antisemitic banner drops, property destruction, and ongoing incidents of hate speech in Austin, and stand with all of the city’s members and attenders of Jewish congregations.
On October 16th and 19th, 2021, banners containing hateful messages toward Jews were displayed from bridges over the Mopac freeway near the temple. On October 31st arson was committed against Austin’s Temple Beth Israel.
Life is sacred. Acts of antisemitism and white supremacy seek to erase that of God in all of us. Thus, we desire never to fall into the crime of silence when such things occur.
Our Quaker faith calls us to speak out when any part of our community is under attack. We denounce threats and acts of cruel violence against our Jewish friends
