Friends Meeting of Austin holds that the death penalty is ethically and morally wrong and contrary to our core belief that there is “that of God" in each of us. We call for the immediate abolition of the death penalty on both state and federal levels.
For many years members and attenders have been corresponding with and visiting people incarcerated on death row at Polunsky Unit in Livingston and Mountain View Unit in Gatesville. In addition, each December for well over a decade every person living on Texas's death row has received a holiday card from Friends Meeting of Austin. Our long-term support for imprisoned people, and our well-established opposition to the death penalty continue.
